Thank you for agreeing to support The Royal Marines Charity and take part in the Since 1664 Commando Yomp as part of the Bootneck Money Team.
As a serving member or veteran of the Royal Marines or British Armed Forces, an enthusiastic supporter, or even purely a ‘challenge event junkie’ (and why not!) your efforts are greatly appreciated by the charity and the ultimate beneficiaries. To that end, Bootneck Money, our Principle Sponsor, is funding your entry fee. They therefore ask that you engage in a little fundraising of your own, to cover the cost of your entry place plus a bit more. With this in mind, you will accept a minimum fundraising target of £5o0, which is just half the average fundraising level per Yomper over the last five years. Note that this is a firm commitment (and can applied to the team – eg 2 participants can share a £1000 commitment). Should you fail to achieve this target, then Bootneck Money reserve the right to invite you to make up the shortfall, (up to the value of a self-fund ticket – £356) before your final yomp ticket is supplied.
Bootneck Money
Both the Royal Marines Charity and Bootneck Money will be in touch once you make your commitment to take part (and likely offer to supply you with branded kit.)
The Yomp was originally set up as an endurance event for the Royal Marines and over time has become so popular that the event is now opened up to other charities, and anyone who would like to take on the challenge. Be assured this is a tough challenge, no serving or former Royal Marine Commando has said this is easier than any of the Commando Tests, indeed it has been said more than once that “I’d rather do all four tests back to back than this again”! Also be aware the dropout rate is at least 50%. But rest assured, and we quote “that if a fat 50 year old former Bootneck managed it, so can you, as 95% of this challenge is you and you alone, pushing your inner spirit. Remember, this is NOT a race against other competitors and whilst it is important that you have a relative degree of fitness, it is a state of mind that will carry you along the way and to ultimately conquer the challenge!!
